The new improved APA ASM!

I am delighted to announce the opening of registration for the 2017 APAGBI ASM in Bristol (7th-9th June 2017). The annual scientific meeting is the key CPD event in our calendar and is regularly attended by more than 250 members. After some feedback from the membership, we decided that we would try to refresh the Social format a little to take full advantage of the local attractions and allow delegates more freedom to meet and interact in a less formal fashion. We hope this will refresh the meeting, making it more attractive and providing better value for our colleagues.

The meeting will be over five venues in the centre of Bristol, occupy two and a half days and feature:

  • The neuro-anaesthesia interest pre-conference (Wednesday) will happen at the Arnolfini, a premier arts venue on the harbour side.
  • There will be a Wednesday evening reception and registration event at the Bristol Museum which is a central venue and will be a good jumping off point for the usual social activities.
  • The main meeting will be at the Colston Hall and will have two streams. There will be prominent key speakers on topics as diverse as ‘reflections on the Bristol inquiry’, ‘aging and the anaesthetist’ and current ‘developing world’ projects.
  • There will be simulation workshops at the Bristol Simulation centre on the Friday
  • We have attracted some particularly prominent speakers to this meeting including Dr Phil Hammond, Dr Steven Bolsin and our own RCoA President Liam Brennan.

We have changed the format of the annual 'dinner’. The social event on the Thursday evening will be on the superb SS Great Britain in Bristol Harbour. This will be less formal (smart, not black tie) and we think, better value than the dinner and we hope will encourage a more social atmosphere. It will be sufficiently flexible to provide a whole evening’s entertainment at a superb venue or simply be a place for people to meet and catch up with colleagues from other centres or friends from previous jobs. We are sure this will enhance the delegates’ experience of the meeting. I look forward to welcoming you to Bristol in June, 2017.
